A pavilion made of weather for Arter
A summer pavilion with no walls. Ninety mist nozzles and a wind sensor draw a room in the air that thickens or dissolves depending on the Bosphorus breeze.
Arter Istanbul 2024 exhibition, spatial
The brief asked for shade. We proposed weather.
A ring of nozzles is driven by an anemometer on the roof: as the wind picks up, the system compensates, holding the mist wall at roughly the same density. On a still evening the pavilion is almost solid. In a gale it disappears entirely, which we decided was honest.
